Tower defense is the most mechanically honest genre on Roblox. Enemies walk a fixed path, you place units beside it, the units shoot, and either the arithmetic works or it does not. There is no aim to hide behind and no story to carry a weak wave, which makes this the genre where a bad game is obvious in ten minutes and a good one is obvious in five.

Two families split the shelf. The classic-TD family — Tower Defense Simulator, Tower Battles, Tower Defense X — gives everyone the same roster and asks you to spend it well. That second family is the larger and the more popular one, and it is worth being clear about why: the wave is the game, but the pull is the reason to come back tomorrow.

The trade-off is real. A collector TD puts a wall between you and its best content, and the wall is either a lot of hours or a lot of rolls. A classic TD hands you the whole roster and asks you to be good with it. Neither is worse; they answer different questions. What they share is that both are much better with a team, because the genre is built around splitting one path between people who can each afford different things.

Start with Anime Vanguards if the collector form appeals and the banner does not put you off. Tower Defense X is the newest take on the plain version, and Tower Battles has the tightest and smallest roster on the page. Plants vs Brainrots is the odd one out — it grows its defenders like crops before the waves arrive — which is why it also sits under Strategy & Sandbox.
